Texas School District Loses $2 Million+ to Phishing Scam

An Austin-area school district that serves nearly 10,000 students fell victim to a brutal Phishing scam.

The Manor Independent School District called in the FBI and local Police Department to investigate the incident after District employees were fooled into sending $2.3 million to attackers.

There were three separate fraudulent transactions in the scam.

The scam was artfully executed, such that District employees had no idea they were sending the money to criminals.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, scammers use email or text messages to trick people into giving out personal information.

The most effective protection is training your team with consistent Phishing testing and Cybersecurity training.

More organizations are turning to INFIMA's fully managed Cyber Security Training to keep teams safe.
